I finally got around to figuring out the whole Canon Hack Development Kit (CHDK) thing for my G11. It was pretty confusing and I gave up a few times but I eventually got it to load and figured out how to do some simple things. The added features I find extremely useful are:
  • 2,000 sec. exposures
  • Zoom setting displayed as 35mm Equiv. (27mm-139mm)
  • Motion detection and timelapse
  • Addition of a Super Fine JPEG option
  • An additional battery level indicator shown both as a bar and as a percentage
  • Optical zoom and AF while recording video as well as different compression rates
Very cool stuff. I'm going to have to figure out some inventive ways to use these new tools. Using all this awesomeness make the camera pretty warm and I think I burned through 10% of the battery in 10 minutes, but whatever. 2,000 second exposures. Come on.
