This is the Great Candy Exchange. Back in my candy days, this act was disguised as "checking the candy for razor blades." Perhaps a small percentage of the motive had to do with safety, but it's clearly a way to spread the wealth around to the older members. The current transaction is much more straightforward. Each contestant decides which candies are disgusting to them, then they are used to barter for better goods.
My great grandpa in the basement catching up on some game. Baseball, maybe. I can't elaborate on that.

This is another little section of the basement, which holds absolutely nothing made after 1983. I don't know, maybe that phone was made in 1985. My mistake. We escape here every year to have interesting conversations and play SNES.
